Overview
Lowland Leader training is a two day course where you will cover the full syllabus and have plenty of opportunities to put skills into practice and ask questions of your instructor and the other course candidates. We take your experience into account and encourage the sharing of ideas and skills to give you a toolbox to work with in a range of different situations.

Training courses are our chance to help you become the best leader you can. For us, the essence of good instructing is the ability to tailor the delivery to the appropriate level for each individual and to make the best use of the conditions that are available. As such we’ll use our wealth of experience and extensive local knowledge to select the best venues and opportunities to introduce the principles of each skill in the syllabus and we’ll give you the opportunity to practice, in a progressive manner, so that you’ll finish the course confident in your ability to apply these skills in a variety of scenarios. We guarantee to work hard to develop your skills to the required level and beyond – giving you confidence in your abilities whilst having a great two days out walking with like-minded people.

See the Mountain Training website for more information on the Lowland Leader and to register for the scheme.
Pre-requisites
Before you book on to a Lowland Leader training course, please make sure you have done the following:

• You must be at least 17 years old
• You must be registered on the scheme
• You must have either an up-to-date logbook (preferably DLOG) with evidence of 10 varied walks in low-level terrain (pre- or post-registration) OR have attended a walking and navigation personal skills training course recognised by Mountain Training (Hill Skills or Mountain Skills)

If you do not have the prerequisite 10 quality lowland walks logged in your log book, the course director is obliged by mountain training to either ask you to leave the course or will not record your attendance on the course. The pre-experience is important as it allows the training to start at a leadership level rather than a novice level.
Course Location
This course is delivered from our Training Centre, in Hathersage, in the Peak District.
