Overview
We offer 1:1 (or larger ratio) private Winter ML refresher courses on dates to suit you – a great way to fast-track your skills by brushing up on areas of the syllabus that you’d be keen to practice more. An experienced Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (WMCI) will work with you to develop any skills you would like to refine as you prep for your Winter Mountain Leader.
The agenda for the day/s can be as varied (e.g. cover snow-belays, navigation and run into the night for night-navigation) or as focused (e.g. an entire day running through the winter security on steep ground syllabus) as you’d like. Whatever you feel you’d like to work on, we can provide you with the coaching and instruction that you need to approach your Winter ML with much more confidence.
A standard course would usually run from 8.30am – 4.00pm but if you’d prefer to meet later and go into darkness to work on some night navigation we’d be happy to do that – just make a note of this when prompted in the ‘tailor your course’ box.
Course Ratio
Maximum Client to Instructor Ratio: 6:1
Usually we run this course for one or two people but we also run this course with up to 6 people, since we can run it similar to a Winter ML training day if there are enough people keen to book on together. This brings the cost right down but be aware the course would be inevitably less tailored to the individual. Our low ratios ensure you receive personalised coaching, allowing us to maximise your learning and enjoyment during your course.
Location
Scotland
Scotland is the most reliable place in the UK for the winter conditions required for good practice. Snowdonia and the Lake District also get good conditions on rare occasions and since it’s your course you can book us to meet you anywhere you think would work best for you. In Scotland our suggestions would be using Aviemore or Fort William bases to allow for quick access to good areas for practice but we’d be happy to follow your suggestions too.
Dates
Winter season
We run Winter ML refreshers throughout the winter season, on dates to suit you – just use the calendar below to select a date or consecutive dates and fill in the ‘tailor your course’ box to let us know about what you would like help with. Mid Jan – mid March tends to have the best conditions but if you’re prepping for your assessment you’ll know it’s anyone’s guess! We’ll make the best of whatever conditions we find or postpone if the conditions are poor and that works for both of us.
